Emily Thomas

Emily Thomas, Founding Director

Emily Thomas is a former Special Adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and has provided expert advice, at the highest levels, to both UK and Canadian government departments and senior ministers on public service transformation and innovation policy and practice.

At the Treasury, Emily developed strategies on an extensive range of services and policies including local government, child poverty and health, working closely with voluntary and community sectors, businesses and trade unions.

Most recently, Emily led the development of the Design Council’s work in public services as Policy Adviser and Programme Leader. As Director of Aequitas Consulting, Emily has continued to advise the Design Council on where design can play a greater role in meeting major societal challenges.

Emily has also been Special Adviser at the Department of Trade and Industry, both to the Secretary of State and to the Minister of Science and Innovation.

In Canada, Emily was Special Adviser to the Minister of Labour and Federal Homelessness. Emily also served on the Ministerial Communications Services team for Environment Canada, with lead responsibility for climate change communications planning.

Emily is fluent in French and holds a BA in Political Science from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and is a Graduate of the School of Community and Public Affairs.
